Hi Kids. As most of you know, Jeff Wood, Nutrajet Drummer Extraordinaire, suffered a seizure on June 11 and, subsequently, underwent surgery for removal of a brain tumor (you should see his cool scar!). His recovery time is unknown, but certainly, physical therapy (for loss of motor skills on his left side) will be needed. He was released last weekend, but has now been re-admitted with pneumonia.
Nutrajet was scheduled to play on July 5 at the Back Booth (downtown Orlando) with The Four Shames. This show has now been turned into a benefit for Jeff. He is without health insurance and has been out of work (and will continue to be for an unknown amount of time). We are trying to raise money so Jeff can pay his rent, utilities, phone bill, groceries etc…
Many of you have already made private donations (thank you) either with a cheque (payable to Greg Reinel) or via paypal ([email protected]). I have had others tell me that they are e-baying some items from their prized record collections (you know how we record-collecting geeks are… that’s HUGE). The rest of us can do our part by attending the benefit on July 5th. Here’s the skinny:
Back Booth - ?7 cover – doors at 9:00pm
$1 raffle tickets ($5 for a forearm length) and silent auction items (some pretty cool items) $3 ‘Pot Luck’ beer tub (who knows… could be a Miller High Life, could be a Becks). All proceeds will go to Jeff, obviously. Ken Chiodini (drummer for The Four Shames and the initial ‘idea man’ for this) will be pulling double-duty, as Jeff’s ‘replacement’ for the evening.
Gracious donations have been made by: Schenck Co., Rock & Roll Heaven, Underground Products, Wills Pub and Alfonso’s Pizza, not to mention Ryan and Pat of The Back Booth for allowing us to monopolize on their Saturday night and make their night a living hell. Red Onions (the print shop were Jeff used to work) has donated the printing of 50 t-shirts (with the poster that Greg made), which will be given out.
I would, personally, like to thank Willy Trimble for his time and efforts in organizing these shenanigans, as well as Steve Schneider (The Orlando Weekly) for putting up with my constant barrage of e-mails and the begging of favors. Sean Mallon, who made the Nutrajet video for ‘Deleted’, has also donated his time to film the evening’s festivities for Jeff, and Dave Ewing will be spinning records in-between sets. Kiss, Kiss.
Jeff is not aware of what we have planned for him. We just want to show up at his door and hand him a wad of cash. Geez….. he should have major surgery more often!
So, bring your whistles and let’s help Jeff get on his feet and into tight pants! We don’t want Greg to have to go the ‘solo’ route, by playing Holiday Inn’s, covering James Taylor and Dan Fogelberg ‘hits.
